Pesticide and Toxic compund Testing

TOXIC COMPOUNDS TESTING OF NUTRACEUTICALS

Purity specializes in testing nutraceutical ingredients for toxic compounds in order to comply with all FDA guidelines. We offer labortory testing for hundreds of pesticides and toxic chemicals selected for their potential to harm human health. Tests are conducted with Liquid Chromotography Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) equipment for precise and accurate test results.

In the nutraceutical industry, the ingredients most vulnerable to pesticide contamination are those that originate in the ground, such as minerals, organic ingredients, botanicals and herbs. Nutraceuticals can also absorb toxic compounds from exposure to chemicals used to clean machinery or from storage or handling areas where chemicals have been used.

TOXIC COMPOUNDS TESTING OF FOOD

There is a growing need for pesticide testing in the food industry. The American Academy of Pediatrics points to food as the primary source of children’s exposure to pesticides. Pesticides are widely used in food production in order to control pests such as insects, rodents, weeds, bacteria, mold and fungus. Even organic farmers are allowed to use approved pesticides listed in the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances and per applicable state regulations.

The worldwide use of pesticides in food and supplement production has been a cause of increasing concern amongst retailers, regulators and end users. Consumers are looking for the assurance that the foods they eat and supplements they take are safe and free of unwanted contaminants.

TOXIC COMPOUNDS AND PESTICIDES TESTING AT PURITY

The chemical diversity of pesticides presents a considerable challenge to food and dietary supplement chemists, who require a range of analytical techniques to extract them from food samples, and then accurately and efficiently determine their identity and concentration at trace levels.

Purity has conducted laboratory testing for pesticides in food, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products since 2011. Purity is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standards to provide our customers with the most accurate testing results. Few laboratories have the experience and the range of tests for the presence of pesticides (and other toxic chemicals) that Purity offers.

Testing is performed on state-of-the art gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) equipment.

LC-MS allows for the detection and quantification of pesticides in complex samples. LC-MS is a powerful analytical technique that combines two different methods: Liquid chromatography (LC) and mass spectrometry (MS).

GC-MS is a widely used analytical technique for the detection and quantification of pesticides in various matrices. GC-MS is a two-step process where the sample is first separated into its individual components using gas chromatography (GC) and then analyzed using mass spectrometry (MS). This technique is highly sensitive and specific, allowing for the detection of low levels of pesticides in complex mixtures.
