FAQs:  Covid-Surface Testing

Covid Graphicsmall.jpg
What types of surfaces can be swabbed?

Any solid surface can be swabbed with our kits, however we would recommend that most attention be paid to impermeable surfaces such as metal, plastic and glass as coronavirus has been shown to persist for up to 72 hours in on such materials.

Where should I swab?

For the maximum chances of detecting the presence of the virus in the environment sample locations should be chosen based on the level of traffic/contact at that location. Locations with high traffic and or frequent contact should be prioritised. Examples of these locations would be light switches, door handles, touch screens, keypads and handrails.

How frequently should I swab?

Is there an expiration on my kit?

The kits do not have an expiration date.  You can use them at your convenience.

Can I split my kit?
Yes, you can submit partial kits.  (For example, we send you 4 swabs and you send back three.)  Only swabs that arrive back in the return kit will be processed. Swabs not received with the initial kit shipment will not be processed.

How do I protect myself when doing the testing?

In general, you should follow CDC guidance for workplace safety and Covid-19 control.  You can read this on the CDC website at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html.

You will want to use the gloves we provide and wipes we provide in your kit use according to the instructions in your kit.  You should always wear a face mask while swabbing.

If you spill the solution in the vials provided, wipe up with soap (such as Dawn) and water or an EPA approved cleaner.  If the solution comes in contact with your skin, be sure to wash the area thoroughly with soap and water as it is a mild irritant.  Call us at 503.297.3636 if you have additional safety concerns.
